How these food prep mums save hundreds of dollars on shopping and keep their weight down

Lauren Golman

What if I told you you could save up to $100 each week on your grocery shop by meal prepping?

Well, that's just what these three mum's are doing. Kaitie, Jess and Sascha are some of Australia's savviest shoppers. They plan a menu, buy their fresh ingredients, and then bulk cook up to 65 meals that can last up to three months. Check out the video (above) to see how they do it.

It's just like having those supermarket TV dinners, except that you prepare them yourself with much healthier - and arguably tastier - ingredients.

But who is Australia's meal prep champion? There's only one way to find out, and it's with a cook off! Which meal prep mum can spend the least and make the most?

All three women have had 10 minutes at the supermarket where they've bought ingredients of their choice, and they've spent as much (or as little) as they wanted.

Mum of two, Kaitie, spent $153.70 and managed to cook a remarkable 64 meals. That's just $2.40 per dish.

"I think the best way is to start small. So make double, triple, quadruple serves of dinner each night, and start building that freezer stash up that way," Kaitie tells A Current Affair.
