Cult Disneyland favourite now available in Australia for the first time

Dreams of visiting Disneyland are currently suspended, but that doesn't mean we can't find a piece of the 'happiest place on Earth' Down Under.

The amusement park's cult favourite treat, the Dole Whip soft serve, will be available at this year's Royal Easter Show in Sydney for the first time.

Attendees of the annual event, spanning 12 days of rides, joy and, most importantly, show bags, can indulge on the creamy cone during their out.

Ted Foster, Dole Whip's Australian distributor, says the cone will make its debut at the 198-year-old show to give Sydneysiders "a taste of Disneyland."

The Dole Whip cone, served exclusively at Disneyland until now, was originally scheduled to tantalise taste buds at the Easter Show last year, but was put on pause due to coronavirus.

Now the dairy- and gluten-free vegan treat, which has inspired its own merchandise line, will be available in the traditional pineapple flavour, as well as strawberry, mango and watermelon.

Dole Whip became synonymous with Disneyland in 1986, two years after the magic concoction was createdin Hawaii.

Since then, it's been the official sponsor of a number of Disneyland attractions, including the Enchanted Tiki Room and the Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland and Magic Kingdom.

Foster plans to take the dessert across Australia with his touring food trucks serving up Dole Whips at major shows nationally.

At the Sydney Easter Show, the Dole Whip truck will be located at the Kids Street – Giants Stadium Concourse and The Woolworths Fresh Food Dome.

Foster says it's "exciting to be back doing the big shows again" after his schedule was cleared by COVID-19 last year.

"Our livelihood is following the show circuit, so to see the big shows able to run in 2021 is a huge relief," he said.

Disney published a "make at home" version of the cult treat during the pandemic, giving people stuck in lockdown the chance to bring a bit of light refreshment to their self-isolation stations.

While Foster says the alternative DIY Dole was "good", Disney "didn't give away the whole recipe."

"Our 'secret herbs and spices', so to speak, weren't all revealed," he said, adding people could only "get their hands on one of [the] authentic, original" soft serves at the Easter Show.
