'Dragon's Breath' dessert makes diners breathe out smoke

Forget ice-cream headaches — watch out for "Dragon's Breath" tongue burn.

Just when we thought we were over the worse of the food gimmicks for 2016 (chocolate snorting craze, we're looking at you), an LA café went and invented a dessert named "Dragon's Breath" that makes diners exhale vapour — like a fire-breathing dragon, of course. Oh, and occasionally diners burn their tongues on the icy balls (yay?).

The culinary sorcery behind the treat is not as original or majestic as its fictional namesake; the dessert is made up of liquid nitrogen coated ice-cream cereal balls — which look kind of like frozen Fruit Loops in ball-form.

Clips circulating online show customers eating the icy cereal balls before breathing smoke out of their mouths and noses.

But it's not all fun and games, as some diners have received tongue burns from Dragon’s Breath dessert as a result of shoveling the treats into their mouths too soon after the liquid nitrogen is added (for maximum dragon breath effect, we assume). Instagram user Brandon Young (@bran_donger), featured in the video above, yelps in pain as he puts one of the balls into his mouth. The post comes with a warning: "be careful guys liquid nitrogen hurts".
