Lines out the door for cheap Easter Eggs after coronavirus shutdown

This week, Darrell Lea became one of the many businesses changing their operation method to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The chocolate company announced they would be closing the retail stores attached to their factories amid fears of COVID-19. They reassured customers that the factories will remain open and operational as normal, and their entire range will be available in supermarkets.

But once the store announced that everything would be discounted to half-price before closing at the end of the day, that was a good enough reason for everyone to go stock up before Easter.

The Australian government recommends that while out in public, everyone should aim to keep a distance of 1.5 metres between them.

In response to this direction, last week fast food chain KFC closed their dining rooms, while fellow chicken outlet Chargrill Charlie's introduced a contactless ordering system. Local cafes have introduced no-cash policies and have stopped accepting personal cups.

Stories of panic-buying have filled the news for the last two weeks. It started with toilet paper and hand sanitiser, then spread to pantry items like pasta and rice. Despite Prime Minister Scott Morrison urging everyone to stay calm and not hoard groceries, many supermarket shelves are bare.

Major retailers like Coles and Woolies have put restrictions on the number of in-demand items - like pasta, rice and toilet paper - each shopper can purchase.

However, the Easter egg shelves are very well-stocked so there'll be plenty of chocolate to go around on Easter morning.
