All the weird and wonderful ways you can eat croissants
With the 2024 Summer Olympics coming up in Paris, France, many are seeking a French twist in their daily lives.
The perfect foundation? The humble croissant.
Though it has become a staple for many of our mornings, we must not forget the painstaking effort it takes to make this classic French pastry, layer by layer.
Here are some of the weird and wonderful ways to elevate your morning croissant.
Flat croissant trend
One TikTok trend has threatened the bastardisation of the French pastry.
The croissant is known for being made layer by buttery layer, with all of them visible when you take a bite into the flaky pastry.
But this trend sees people subverting this by flattening the entire thing, defeating the whole purpose of the pastry.
In the video the creator advises to find a packet of frozen croissants and flatten it in a sandwich press, adding some sugar to your liking.
The result is a paper-thin French delicacy, with a creator saying it was "10 out of 10".
Flat croissant sandwich
Others have taken it further, making a sandwich out if the repurposed croissants.
This creator first rolls out stale croissants with a rolling pin before cooking in honey for some extra sweetness.
Then she used burrata, grilled peppers, eggplant and some balsamic glaze for the ultimate sandwich.
Chocolate croissant pudding
This chocolate croissant pudding is an indulgent and easy dessert to make in no time.
Simply create your custard with eggs and sugar in large bowl; add milk, cream and vanilla and whisk until combined.
Then layer four chocolate (or plain, if you'd like) croissants in a two-litre ovenproof dish and pour the mixture over. Let stand for 30 minutes so the croissants can absorb the ooey gooey custard.
Then place this dish in larger baking tray; add enough boiling water to the trey to come half way up sides of dish.
Bake in preheated oven for about 45 minutes or until pudding sets.

TikTok creator morbiyan shares to first cut stale croissants in half and lay them on a baking dish.
Then create a simple sugar syrup to douse the croissants in with water, sugar and almond extract.
Then prepare an almond paste with almond flour, sugar, salt, butter, vanilla and almond extract, eggs and heavy cream. Whisk together and put in a piping bag.
First douse the croissants with the sugar syrup before piping on the almond paste, placing chocolate chunks inside. Close the croissants and add more almond paste before topping with thinly sliced almond flakes.

Hot chocolate and custard croissant jaffles
Croissants are perfectly crispy and flaky as they are, but adding them into a jaffle maker takes it to the next level.
Preheat jaffle maker until green light switches on.
Mix custard and chocolate hazelnut spread together.
Place two croissant bases into jaffle maker and spoon half the mixture evenly between the two and place two croissants lids on top. Close lid and cook 2-3 minutes or until croissant is golden and crisp.
