The trick is to slice your cake straight across instead of only to the middle and pull out a slice. That's right, slice right across. You'll need to start by taking off the curved edge closest to you.

Once you have a flat surface, take a cutting board, sit it up against the flat piece of cake and slice directly across the cake again so that you remove a whole, big flat surface of the cake. Tip it onto the board and lay it down flat, then you can cut top to bottom and end up with tall matchsticks of cake that serve up easily, beautifully and are as big or as small as you want. This will help your cake go further, cut smaller (when needed) and it looks super cute on the plate.
It will make cake cutting so much less stressful. And cake should always, always, always be fun.
