Foodies salivating over photo of homemade hot chips: 'Couldn't be simpler'

They're labelled "just fries", but a photo of homemade hot chips has left foodies in a flap.

The photo, posted to reddit, shows a jumble of potato slices cooked to golden perfection with a light dusting of salt.

The post has garnered more than 12,000 likes, with food lovers clambering to offer praise and also enquire about cooking times.

"These look absolutely mouthwatering," one reddit user wrote.

"Just fries is best fries," one wrote.

"These fries look gorgeous," another wrote.

"You know how there are dirty burgers? These are dirty fries (delicious). I want the dirty fries," another wrote.

"They look amazing. Man, I love fries. As a Dutchie I also have to tell: mayo is the best with fries," another wrote.

"So bake 400° for us non-metric Americans," yet another wrote.

Humbled by the attention the photo was given, the original poster offered up the recipe.

"Feel silly typing this but these are Maris Piper potatoes (skin on). Sliced into fries, patted dry and tossed in a bowl with your choice of oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and a pinch of cayenne for colour," they wrote.

"Laid out on a baking tray and baked for around 40 minutes at 180-200c. Couldn't be simpler."
