Ballerina potato peeler makes kitchen chores a breeze

ninemsn Food

Peeling potatoes is practically the cooking equivalent of watching paint dry, but what if the tedious process of stripping off that course, horrible skin could be made (*dramatic gasp*) entertaining?

Enter the Zipeela, a charming little gadget that transforms the drudgery of peeling potatoes into a graceful—even hypnotic—experience. And it doesn't stop at potatoes—grapes, oranges, apples, parsnips, beets, carrots, sweet potatoes can all join in the de-skinning party, which in no way sounds sinister, at all.

The handy device captured our attention when The Guardian's resident gadget guru Rhik Samadder road-tested the Zipeela and soon found himself mesmerised.

"The fruit dizzyingly pirouettes – have you ever seen a potato ballerina? – while the blade rappels down its side, adjusting for contours, producing a long, unbroken curl of skin. As I watch my Williams pear dance a tango with Edward Scissorhands, I gather the spooling flesh, entranced."

Needless to say, the infatuated reviewer gave the twirling kitchen tech a 4/5.
