Aussie bakery launches epic lasagne pie hybrid

Banjo’s Bakery Café

An Australian bakery chain has debuted a decadent new hybrid food as part of their permanent line-up.

Banjo's Bakery Cafe has welcomed the Lasagne Pie to its signature menu, featuring layers of fresh pasta, beef mince, tomato, garlic and vegetables, wrapped in flaky pastry and topped with cheese.

The indulgent pie joins existing pie hybrids, including the Bangers and Mash, Chicken Parmigiana and Double Cheeseburger.

Banjo's Bakery Café CEO Jessica Saxby said the new Lasagne Pie offers a more portable way to enjoy the classic Italian comfort food.

"Our diners are often on-the-go, so it made sense to develop a pasta-filled pocket and Signature Pie flavour that was easy to enjoy on the run at lunchtime, on the side-line of Saturday sport, at your next family picnic and anywhere in between," said Mrs Saxby.

The announcement comes after a contest that asked pie lovers to guess the new signature flavour for their chance to be dubbed the first "Pie Minister".

The brand's head of product development Marcel Schnitzer said the flavour was developed to evoke nostalgia and transport Aussies.

"We hope that the Pie Minister competition encouraged Australians to dream big when it comes to thinking of their favourite flavours that transport you across the world."

The Lasagne Pie is now available at Banjo's Bakery Cafe stores and via Uber East nationwide.

It's not the only bakery merging iconic dishes together in recent times.
