'This should be illegal': Aldi 'long egg' baffles the internet

Katherine Scott

An Aussie mum has gone viral for her bizarre egg creation, which has left many shoppers baffled around how, or why, it was made.

Cham Scott shared her attempt at a "long egg" to the Facebook group Aldi Mums, drawing a number of stunned reactions from fellow shoppers.

"What weird things have you cooked with Aldi free range eggs, I had a go at long egg not too shabby," she wrote, alongside photos of the polarising creation.

Her images appear to show an egg in the shape of a log — but even more perplexing, when cut lengthways, the yolk seems to be perfectly centered all the way through.

The post drew mixed reactions from online critics and left many Aldi fans with a lot of questions, with comments ranging from "I'm so confused" to "This should be illegal".

"HOW DID YOU DO THIS WIZARD," one critic wrote.

"What kind of witchcraft is this!!" another agreed.

"What's wrong with a round egg why do we need a long rectangle?" one shopper chimed in.

Another critic asked: "Why does this make me so uncomfortable," with others sharing the same sentiment: "This makes me feel uncomfortable".

"Everyone's asking how, but I want to know... why? Lol seems like a lot of work for a boiled egg," another queried, with other users finding humour in the egg dish: "Why have plain egg; when you can have long egg".

The long egg creator later explained how she pulled off the seemingly impossible dish.

Separating the egg whites from the yolks, she began by placing the whites in a long glass and placing the glass inside a pot of cold water, slowly bringing it to boil with the saucepan lid on.

She then hollowed out the middle using a thick straw, added the yolks into the cavity, and placed the glass back in the water, cooking while covered with a lid.

"Once cooked I ran a knife around the inside and it plopped out that's it. Was fun making," she said.

Well, that was a journey...
