My blind date with Harry

I've never been on a blind date before...ever...in my whole life.

Not because friends and family haven't offered, but because I feel like there's something so fake and contrived about the whole thing, I have just refused point-blank.

Then, one evening in November I heard something, something that got me thinking "I should probably give this a try".

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement to the world, they admitted their first meeting was a blind date in London, set up by a mutual friend. The pair hit it off so well, they met again the next day before catching up in Africa two weeks later.

A part of me thought, "If it's good enough for the Queen's grandson, surely I can give it a go".

So, as Valentine's Day approached for another year and having just relocated to London, I realised now's as good a time as any to try it out.

My friend picked a date. His name is Harry (I kid you not!) and he was a lot younger than me.

The age difference put me off at first, but then I thought, Meghan is three years older than Harry – so I should just get over myself and go have fun.

We ended up going to Notting Hill's Beach Blanket Babylon - a posh but eccentric and quirky place where the young royals reportedly held their Christmas party with Kensington Palace staff last year.

I thought to myself, I don’t know what I was so scared of. Why have I never been on a blind date before?

The night ended, and Harry and I said our goodbyes. We weren’t planning our second date on a safari in Botswana…but I felt I’d made another friend in my new home town.

Although it wasn't the fairy tale ending the actress had (nor what my friend had envisaged – she had a wedding speech in the works already), I'm still glad I ventured out of my comfort zone, if only because you never know where you'll meet your own prince. And, at least now I'm open to the possibility of it being on a blind date.
