Female journalist kicked out of Question Time for showing 'too much skin'

A female journalist has been removed from Question Time in Canberra for allegedly showing too much skin.

ABC reporter Patricia Karvelas tweeted a photo moments after the incident, revealing the offending item of clothing.

"I have just been kicked out of #QT because you can allegedly see too much skin," Karvelas posted on social media.

The journalist, who is the host of RN Drive, tried to fight back, calling the rule "insane".

She told the attendant her top consisted of "short sleeves" but was removed regardless.

Once news of the ejection came to light, other journalists – and some politicians – rallied around Karvelas.

Sarah Hanson-Young called for the dress code to be updated.

While Nine political correspondent Airlie Walsh went straight to the rule book.

"Dress Code: Press gallery members should maintain dress adopted by the majority of Senators & Members... In the House of Reps, this may include a shirt with collar, jacket & trousers for men, & a similar standard of formality for women I dare say the below is a similar standard?" Walsh tweeted.

She also shared a photo of former Foreign Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister, Julie Bishop wearing a sleeveless pink dress during Question Time, last week.

Speaking with Ben Fordham on Sydney's 2GB this afternoon, Karvelas said it was the second time she's been removed from Question Time because of her shoulders.
