Boxers as shorts: The fashion trend we never saw coming
The trend of underwear as outerwear has hit the runways and trickled into mainstream fashion.
Hailed by the stars as a new, unique way to repurpose men's basics into wardrobe staples, this trend has been worn by Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Sydney Sweeney.
Now, men's boxers have entered the style scene as a comfortable, affordable trend piece.

The no-pants, baring-all look isn't entirely achievable for everyone, with boxers offering a happy medium that is sartorially approved but offers more casual coverage.

Cotton On, DISHH, Kmart, and Princess Polly have all embraced the trend, selling boxers that can be worn as shorts for as little as $5.

A fresh alternative to denim cut-offs, boxers can be layered under pants, dressed up or down and come in an array of fun colourways.
So why are we letting undergarments take centre stage in this new fashion fad?
9Honey team member Chantelle Bozicevic was way ahead of this curve.
"I saw the trend around, but all the boxer shorts where I would usually shop were $30 plus, which seemed a bit steep," she says.
"I saw them in Kmart, walking past the men's section with three pairs for $16, and they had some cute patterns, so I decided to give them a go, and you would never know!
"I've had a bunch of people compliment me on them and ask where I got them; I even inspired a few friends to go out and get their own, too."
When styling this new trend, the world is your oyster.
"As far as what I wear them with, usually like a little cardigan and boots or Mary Janes. Sometimes, a hoodie and sneakers with lots of jewellery to dress it up," Chantelle says.
"I usually buy them in a size or two bigger, so they're a bit baggier.

"I think with boxer shorts, they look best when you go with the big-pants small-top method, so baggy shorts and a cute little tank top or cardigan!"
Next time you reach for jeans or denim cut-offs, consider layering or substituting them with this comfortable and affordable fashion find.
