The Sex and The City items we hope Sarah Jessica Parker still has in her wardrobe

9Honey Staff

Audrey Hepburn's Givenchy black dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Blair Waldorf's collection of hairbands and Cher's revolving wardrobe in Clueless — fashion really has a way of making TV and films so memorable. But what happens to all those clothes after the director calls cut?

According to an article by Fashionista.com, every costume is officially property of the studio producing the show, with items documented, photographed, logged, tagged and stored. Studios can then stockpile them for other productions to rent or, if the look is so iconic, it's often placed in the archives.

So despite what you might think, actors are strictly prohibited from keeping or borrowing any of the clothes. However, as costume designer Eric Daman pointed out, there are often privileges for top-billed stars.

"When I was doing Sex and the City," Daman told fashionista.com. "Sarah Jessica [Parker] had a deal where she could get some of the things."

But before you start thinking (or hoping) she stuffed her bags full of Jimmy Choo and Valentino, Daman added, "She's not greedy or anything like that."

So what do you think SPJ kept from the set? Here are the items we hope got a resounding "Take, Take, Take."

Sex and the city

The naked dress (Season one)

It’s the outfit that marks the start of one of television’s most-loved relationships. For her first date with Big, Carrie decided to leave nothing to the imagination…

"I don't know, let's just take this. We'll see," were Sex and The City costume designer Patricia Field's initial thoughts when she grabbed this tutu from a bargain bin. This opening credit didn't change over the entire six seasons and this skirt is now an icon.

Today, we'd like to think it sits in Sarah Jessica Parker's wardrobe, waiting for the occasion it can run around the streets of NYC again.

The J’Adore Dior top (Sex and the City 2: the movie)

It’s the look that launched a worldwide logo-tee-and-luxey-skirt obsession. The thought of SJP now wearing it for the school run? Divine.

Proof that letting a city inspire your entire wardrobe, will always result in a sartorial win.

The waiting around dress (Season six)

Hearts broke for Carrie as she waited and waited (and waited) for Alexander Petrovsky in this beautiful Versace Mille Feuille gown. Thankfully she ditched the guy, but we really hope she kept the dress.

All the flowers

"SJP was really into the flowers. One day she said, 'Lets do a big flower.' They started small and got larger and larger and then it escalated into a comedy of flowers," costume designer Rebecca Weinberg has told reporters.

It's pink, blingy and totally OTT but so Carrie. Plus without it, who would've known Big was really John?

Stilettos (every episode)

Because no Sex and the City wardrobe would be complete without Christian Louboutins. Our picks? The gold sparklers spotted in the Sex and the City Movie and that frilly pink pair that became known as the :Goodbye Big Louboutins", which she wore to break up with Big in the end of season four.
