Taylor Swift's mum Andrea Swift almost nixed the one thing she's become known for aside from music
Taylor Swift may have only had her rosy cheeks sans her classic red lip if a makeup artist hadn't pushed back against Andrea Swift's apprehension.
During an interview with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on USA Today this week, celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman revealed Swift's mother almost vetoed the bold lipstick look that has become synonymous with the Grammy winner over the years.
"I remember I really wanted to do a red lip on her because I hadn't seen her in a red lip before," Westman, who was doing a then-19-year-old Swift's makeup for an Allure cover shoot in 2009, recalled on air.

"And her mum, if I'm allowed to say this, was like, 'Well, Taylor doesn't wear red.' And I was like, 'Please, can I just try?'... look at her now," Westman continued.
Swift's trademark red lipstick is not the only iconic celebrity makeup look Westman has had a hand in over the years.
She did, after all, help Gwyneth Paltrow create her wedding makeup look when she married Brad Falchuk in 2018, and did her makeup on the day.
Westman also did Anne Hathaway's makeup for her recent Vanity Fair cover shoot, which had everyone talking.
For her part, Swift told People in 2014, "I never really get too far from red lipstick, do I? I guess I just think my face looks worse without it.
"That's pretty much the only rationale behind it."

Ten years on, it's hard to find a photo of her without it.
She notably wore it to the Super Bowl (and smeared it on beau Travis Kelce's face in their post victory celebrations) and while she was making Grammys history in February.
