Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed one of the most sought after designer bags her Sex and the City character Carrie Bradshaw owned was a fake.

The actress and businesswoman made the revelation during an interview with Vogue for their Life in Looks YouTube series.

"I can tell you everything that I can know about this outfit," Parker says of a photo of her dressed as Bradshaw in season five of the hit show back in 2002.

"That is not a real Hermes bag, just so you know," she tells Vogue.

"Pat [Field] had a person and she was like ‘Do you want one? I can get you one’. And I... 'No, I don’t really, I don’t need one.' But [the bag] isn’t real. The dress is real and it’s Juicy Couture."

Parker says the bag was chosen as she was pregnant at the time with her first child, James Wilkie Broderick, to husband and fellow actor Matthew Broderick.

"I mean that bag had one job to do and it did it very poorly. Maybe if it was a real Hermes bag it would’ve done a better job," she said.

"I didn’t really get to dress that much as myself when I was pregnant because I was working so much of the time when I was pregnant. But when I was in my own life pregnant, I mostly wore overalls."

As well as dishing on the Birkin, Parker also revealed there is more than one tutu in existence from the cult TV show's opening sequence.

"A lot of people claim they have the tutu. I think Pat has one, Michael Patrick [King] has one … so my guess is … that sequence required a splash that there were probably four or five or six," she said.

"My guess is that Pat and I, as we always did, talked about a bunch of choices and at the end of the day this is where we landed — tank top, tutu and heels."

Parker said there were not a lot of takes for the shot.

"We rehearsed it, we timed it, as you do. You kind of get all the pieces together without adding the liquid," she says laughing.

"That’s how you kind of do it and then you go for it. And I think we got it done probably in one or two takes."
