Cara Delevingne asked permission before breaking the royal dress code
Remember that time Cara Delevingne "controversially" wore that sleek Emporio Armani tuxedo to Princess Eugenie's wedding?
Some reports, at the time, suggested the model blatantly ignored the royal wedding dress code (which for women is day dresses and hats — the same dress code was suggested to guests attending the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle earlier this year) instead opting for a menswear-inspired look, but it has since been revealed the 26-year-old got outfit approval from her close friend, Eugenie, before turning heads at the October nuptials.
Speaking to GraziaGrazia, per , Delevingne admits she messaged the bride-to-be ahead of the royal wedding at Windsor Castle asking permission to don the bold — now iconic — look.
"Eugenie has been a friend of mine since I was a kid and I've always wanted to wear tails," she told the magazine.
"I texted her, as I wasn't sure about it and she was like: 'Of course, I expected nothing else from you!'"
Naturally, Delevingne delivered making an entrance and a sartorial statement by completing her look with a Chanel top hat, black sky-high pumps and a toothpick — randomly — in her mouth.
"I found it interesting how many people came up to me and said: 'You're so brave to wear that!' I was like, really? I feel way more comfortable like this."
