The Met Gala's most memorable looks of all time
The Met Gala, held on the first Monday in May at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, has become fashion's equivalent to the film industry's Oscars, as the world's most famous faces showcase their daring, bold and utterly mesmerising looks year after year.
Who could forget Cher's embellished Bob Mackie gown from 1974, responsible for kick-starting the nude dress trend, or Kim Kardashian's infamous floral Givenchy gown worn at the 2013 extravaganza?
Lady Gaga's four-in-one creation and Jared Leto's head-turning look from 2019 are also in great company as sartorial moments that will go down in Met Gala history – with more to come.
The 2026 Met Gala is next week, and the theme is... drumroll... Fashion Is Art.

Janelle Monáe well and truly committed to the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme of the 2025 Met Gala.
The actress and musician wore a striking Thom Browne outfit, which turned out to be far more than met the eye.

Actor Colman Domingo and F1 legend Lewis Hamilton truly stole the show in their 2025 looks.
Domingo wore a royal blue cape with dazzling embellishment, while Hamiton kept things sleek in an all-white suit teamed with a beret.
Demi Moore
Demi Moore had us all tied up with this very literal take on the theme, wearing a sparkling black gown that, when you took a step back, resembled a man's tie. Incredible.

From the hat (with feather) to the brooches to the pleating, it was a true feast for the eyes.
Zendaya
In 2024, the theme was 'The Garden of Time' said to be inspired by a short story written by JG Ballard in 1962.
Style icon Zendaya arrived on the carpet in a dramatic Maison Margiela gown with berries and leaves adorning her hip and arm.
She opted for dark hued make-up and dramatic eyebrows for the occasion while styling her hair with a fascinator.
But perhaps the most surprising thing about Zendaya's red carpet appearance?
