The resale value of your old luxury packaging will blow your mind

Before you throw out your old perfume bottles and empty luxury brand packaging items, read this: there's a pretty penny to be made from your 'luxury trash'.

According to data analysed by Money.co.uk, listing prices on eBay of designer brand shoe boxes, carry bags, empty perfume bottles and other packaging items are fetching hundreds of dollars at resale.

Topping the old, empty packaging list are Swiss-manufactured Rolex watch boxes with the average resale value hitting $288 — small change considering the cheapest Rolex will set you back $7,400 (for fun, the most expensive is the Rolex GMT Master II Ice with prices starting from $635,000). But if you don't own a Rolex, let alone a box (same!), empty Tag Heur, Breitling, Omega and Seiko watch boxes will also score you between $138-$267.

Fan of Louis Vuitton's trademark red sole heels? The box you're storing them in has an average resale value of $133. But that's not the only cardboard shoe box worth listing. In good nick, Nike shoe boxes could be worth up to $99, while Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci, Chanel and Fendi boast an average resale value of $72-$65.

The comparison site also analysed beauty packaging, with perfume bottles proving to be hot property — even without their signature scents.

Dior's resale value for their iconic bottles is around $90, with Chanel's equally as iconic vials fetching $77.

The jar that holds that Diptyque candle you're saving to burn for special occasions is valued at $89 and luxury scents Cire Trudon and Jo Malone candle jars at $43 and $41, respectively.

Even shopping bags from high-end designers are securing surprising bids, with Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Louboutin paper carry bags hitting up to $124.

You know what that means? Time to raid your wardrobe and bathroom vanity, because there's plenty to be made from your packaging and empties.
