The 'controversial' story behind Lady Gaga's Golden Globes dress auction
It's hard to forget Lady Gaga's impressive Golden Globes 2019 gown.
It has been 10 months since she walked the red carpet in the custom periwinkle Valentino dress, that aptly paid homage to Judy Garland in the 1954 iteration of A Star is Born, and we're still not done talking about it.
The look cemented her icon status and saw her top best-dressed lists around the world but months since its debut, the gown is making headlines for an unusual, slightly controversial reason.

In short, the custom Valentino strapless gown, that featured puffy sleeves and a huge cascading train was "left behind" in the hotel room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel after the Golden Globes and is now up for auction, not by Lady Gaga or fashion house Valentino, but by the housekeeper who found it the following day. Can you believe?!
The dress has been listed on Nate D. Sanders Auctions with bids starting at $8,000.
Accompanying the listing is a series of photos and a 'letter of authenticity' from the housekeeper explaining how she came to possess the dress.

The letter states that the housekeeper has worked for the Beverly Hilton Hotel for 24 years.
"The artist (singer) Lady Gaga left me this dress that she used for the day of the awards," the translated hand-written note reads.
"I turned in the dress to lost and found on the 8th of January, 2019, after the time legally held by lost and found they gave it to me as a gift from her and today I want to auction the dress."

The hotel's lost and found receipt, documenting the exchange, and the original garment bag also comes with the dress, according to the listing.
While we can't confirm if Lady Gaga did "gift" the housekeeper the dress, TMZ reports that according to law enforcement sources "Valentino made an incident report with Beverly Hills Police... about the missing dress."
Speaking to US, a spokesperson for the Beverly Hilton Hotel says that while they're conducting an internal investigation they have no reason to believe the dress was stolen.
