Clever hidden meaning behind Kamala Harris' brown suit
We're used to seeing US Vice President Kamala Harris in a power suit, but her latest one holds a special meaning – a nod to one of her most infamous moments.
As she addressed the crowds on night one of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Harris turned heads in a tan power suit by Chloé.
She complimented the ensemble with a white pussybow blouse and matching tan heels.

But it was the name that the designer brand designated to the particular ensemble that had people raising their eyebrows.
Though Harris' ensemble was custom made, Chloé has named their other pieces in the same hue "coconut brown".
The classification happens to use the name of the same fruit Harris used in an anecdote she made in a 2023 speech, which has since become a meme and one of her most infamous moments.
In a speech on an initiative to advance opportunities for Hispanic Americans, she told a story about her late mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris.
"My mother used to – she would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, 'I don't know what's wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?'
"You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you," she concluded.

The colour of the suit is a swift departure from the typical red, white, black, or navy blue associated with US politics, and one that has made waves before.
Some believed that the coconut brown suit hinted towards Harris dressing for the job she wants, emulating former US President Barack Obama.
Obama copped a lot of attention for wearing a tan coloured suit to a 2014 press conference discussing ISIS threats.

Opinion on the suit may have been strong, but it was equally divided, with some calling the look too casual and summery while others were enamoured by the politician's new look.
