"Now, for generations, people have debated when to call the person you're getting set up with," he said during his speech at the DNC.
"And never in history has anyone suggested 8:30am. And yet, that's when I dialed."
The second gentleman continued on, reminiscing on the awkward voicemail he left when Harris didn't pick up his early morning phone call.
"'Hey, its Douuug. I'm on my way to an early meeting. Again. It's Doug'," he said on stage, mimicking his message.
"I remember I was trying to grab the words out of the air and just put them back in my mouth.
"And after what seemed like far too many minutes, I hung up. By the way, Kamala saved that voicemail - and she makes me listen to it on every anniversary."
In a video montage played at the convention, Emhoff's 29-year-old son, Cole, reflected on watching Harris and his dad fall in love all those years ago.

He referred to their first date as "the blind date that would dramatically change all of our lives," adding that he and his sister Ella "would laugh watching them fall in love, acting like teenagers."
"In 2014, Kamala became Momala. She took over Sunday night dinners and taught Doug how to actually cook," he added.
While the family had never been used to the spotlight prior to Harris entering politics, Cole shared that it was a transition they were all ready to take on together.

"When Kamala became senator, we were all excited to step up. Especially my dad," he said.
"Then Kamala became vice president. It felt like Doug was a bit out of place on Capitol Hill. I thought, 'What is my goofy dad doing here?'
"But he embraced it... I was so proud to watch him do it, to stand by her side, an example of true partnership."
