Australian designers that deserve more hype
Labels such as Zimmermann, Aje, Ellery and Dion Lee dominate the Australian fashion scene, but there are some brands that deliver the goods but miss out on the headlines.
Here are four Australian labels that you need to have on your fashion radar.
Spread the word.
Albus Lumen
Having just picked up the Best Australian Emerging Designer Award and garnering all the right reviews at this year’s Mercedes-Benz Australia Fashion Week, Albus Lumen should be on everyone’s lips and in every woman’s wardrobe.
The label was started by former finance student and Harper’s Bazaar stylist Marina Afonina back in 2015. Having already found favour with Lara Worthington, Albus Lumen has a minimalist approach with clean silhouettes that still allow plenty of room for movement.
Albus Lumen’s slow burn on the fashion scene is something that makes Afonina smile.
"I could make Albus Lumen bigger and larger if I wanted to, but I don't really want to go there yet," Afonina told The Sydney Morning Herald. "It's baby steps."

The Fold
Melbourne swimwear designers Carly Warson and Stephanie Korn launched The Fold as an inclusive label for women of all sizes.
"We bonded over the exhausting and often dispiriting experience of searching for swimwear that catered for our D-plus cup sizes. Feeling frustrated and exposed, we dreamed of finding a brand that made us feel supported and comfortable," they told news.com.au.
"We couldn't understand why brands were still discounting women's curves by offering a limited size range."
With flattering lingerie cuts, an on-trend palette and prints, The Fold ticks all of your aesthetic goals.
