A woman learned her cat had been living a double life after receiving a letter addressed to her cat from a neighbour she had never met.

Anyone with a cat knows that they like to wander around, but Amber Liddon's cat made a strong impression on her neighbours, who grew to love her pet without her knowledge.

Her neighbours, who she has never met, wrote a letter to her cat Leo, saying goodbye as they were moving.

Liddon took to TikTok to share the sweet letter, which read: "To Leo, we are moving and will miss you, Leo! You are the best cat ever."

The message was written on the back of a picture of Leo curled up in a basket, signed by the (former) residents at number 22.

Liddon captioned the post: "When your cat, who is very well loved in the area, gets a goodbye letter from neighbours I've never spoken to."

She added: "Thanks, number 22, you've ruined my day at 8am... emotional damage."

After her video went viral, Liddon told local media that the letter really touched her.

"The note made me feel sad but also full of love for the fact that they love him so much as he has impacted their lives these past three to four years," she told Newsweek.

She said while she had never spoken to the neighbour, she had seen them take Leo inside their house to keep warm in the winter when he wasn't ready to return home yet.
