The 10 most common dog name and breed combinations in Australia
Dogs names these days are a mix of human ones and more traditional canine monikers.
But somehow along the way some names seemed to become aligned with particular dog breeds, like somehow you bring home a kelpie and name it Red or Bluey.
In celebration of National Puppy Day on March 23, Petbarn analysed Greencross Vets' patient lists to find out which breeds in Australia are most commonly given the same name.
Read on to find out which combinations made the list.
Dachshund
Frankie is both a popular name for humans and pets, but if you hear it being called in the dog park you'll most likely see a dachshund running around.
Maltese cross
Whether they're a Maltese crossed with a poodle or bichon frise, many Maltese cross dogs end up with the name Milo.
German shepherd
The most popular dog name for years now has been Luna so it's bound to come up a few times as commonly associated with a particular breed, and German shepherds are one of them.
Labrador
The most common name for Labradors in Australia is Luna, which is thought to be inspired by the Harry Potter character Luna Lovegood.
American Staffordshire terrier
Another breed that usually gets the name Luna is the American Staffordshire terrier.
The name Luna means moon, so its popularity might also be inspired by that.
Golden retriever
Murphy is the most common name for golden retrievers.
The name is Irish and means sea warrior or chief wolf.
French bulldog
French bulldogs are most associated with the name Frankie, perhaps because it's a cute name just like the breed.
Border collie
Could rhyming have been the inspiration for so many owners when naming their border collie?
Ollie is the name most commonly given to this breed which originated in the border between England and Scotland.
Cavoodle
Surprisingly the most common breed and name combination doesn't involve the name Luna, instead it's Cavoodles called Coco.
Given Cavoodles are usually a light brown colour, the name probably takes it's meaning from the chocolate bean cocoa.
