Australia's top 10 dog breeds revealed and ranked
The most popular dog breeds (including crossbreeds) in Australia for the past year have been revealed, and the top dog might surprise you.
The list, compiled by Scratch, comes from a survey of 3,000+ Aussies about their favourite dog breeds.

10. Australian Kelpie
The Aussie Kelpie is the 10th most popular dog in Australia.
The breed is known for its active nature and physical capabilities, so if you're looking for a relaxed dog, this is not the one for you.
Kelpies are incredibly intelligent and eager, loyal and devoted.
They're bred to withstand the Aussie heat and make excellent working dogs.
9. Miniature Dachshund
If you've ever been to a café that allows dogs, you probably came across this pocket-sized pup.
The Miniature Dachshund is Australia's ninth most popular dog, and it's not hard to see why.
They're a very sweet, affectionate breed – however, they're known to have a stubborn streak!
8. Miniature Schnauzer
The Miniature Schnauzer is the eighth most popular dog breed.
Despite their old-man-like appearance, Miniature Schnauzers are actually quite a vibrant breed.
They're smart, friendly and easy to train.

7. Greyhound
Greyhounds are known as one of the gentlest dog breeds, so it's no wonder they made a list.
Coming in at number seven, Greyhounds are known for their sweet temperament and independence.
They make great family pets as they're gentle with humans of all sizes and are also one of the more low-maintenance breeds on the list.
6. Labradoodle
If you couldn't guess from the name, the Labradoodle is a cross breed of a Labrador and a Poodle.
They've skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years for a number of reasons, one of them being that they're hypoallergenic!
Labradoodles are the 6th most popular dog in the country and are usually purchased as a family pet because of their friendly nature.
5. Goldendoodle
Making it into the top five was the Goldendoodle.
They are a crossbreed of Golden Retrievers and Poodles and make an excellent family dog.
Goldendoodles are intelligent and even-tempered, which means they can be easily trained.
4. Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers have always been a popular choice for people looking to get a pet.
They are a Scottish breed of retriever dog famous for their lovable nature, loyalty, and intelligence.
It comes as no surprise that the golden retriever is the 4th most popular dog in Australia.
3. Labrador
Labradors are synonymous with family; they are balls of energy and love.
A British breed of retriever gun dog, these adorable dogs are known for their even temper and outgoing, trusting and gentle personalities.
Make sure you keep Labradors away from any food, though; they will eat it!
The Labrador napped 3rd place for the most popular dogs in Australia.
2. Border Collie
Border Collie is a British herding dog popular with families and farmers.
Border Collies are among the smartest and most active dog breeds, known for their intelligence, alertness and loyal traits.
If you are considering getting a Border Collie, give them lots of exercise as they love being active.
They are the 2nd most popular dog breed in Australia.
