Cats are right up there with dogs as one of the most loved pet options in Australia.
And the number of cat owners is set to grow in 2024 with 6.4 per cent of people planning to get a cat this year.
If you're one of them, or already have a kitty, you might be wondering which breed of cat is the most popular in Australia.
Compare the Market's pulled together a top 10 list based on data from its pet insurance comparison tool.

10. Moggie
The 10th most popular breed in Australia isn't a breed at all. Moggie actually refers to a cat of no particular breed.
This means they can be various colours and sizes, but because they are a mix of breeds they can live longer and be less prone to disease than pure breeds.
9. Burmese
Burmese have a striking appearance and are known to be friendly and affectionate.
They have lots of energy and need plenty of playtime to prevent them getting bored.
7. Ragdoll cross
While the cat in this image is a ragdoll and Siamese cross, ragdoll cats can also be mixed with Burmese, Persian and Birman cats.
5. Domestic long hair
Another type of cat that doesn't belong to a specific breed, the domestic long hair cat is as it's name suggests: a cat with up to six inch long hair.
4. Tabby
Tabby cats can be identified by the M-shaped marking on their foreheads, though they can be a range of different colours.
They are a friendly breed that can be differ in size depending what breed they are as tabby is actually a pattern found in many breeds.
3. Ragdoll cat
Ragdoll cats are incredibly beautiful with their long coat and almond-shaped eyes.
They love people and make great companions so are the perfect breed if you're looking for a cat to snuggle with.

Domestic medium hair cat is another mixed breed but this one is known for its medium size and coat.
They have a double coat that makes them look particularly fluffy and can come in several colours and patterns.

This cat can be found in various colours and personalities because they are of mixed breed, but its one defining characteristic is its short coat.
Like other mixed cats, this type isn't prone to particular health conditions due to its varied genetics.
