Police on the hunt for kidnapped guinea pig

Bobby the guinea pig has been missing from his Brunswick home since Saturday.

But the Brunswick Police are on the case.

"We're appealing to the public to see if anyone has information," Constable Michaela Young told 9Honey.

Bobby's owner, Bianca, last saw her pet at around 8am when they played together in front of their Collier Street home.

Shortly afterwards, she discovered he had vanished. She also discovered a red bike and gold helmet that had been left together in the yard – the only sign that Bobby's disappearance could have been more than a simple runaway case.

Police became involved after Bianca's parents reported the disappearance.

A bulletin regarding the case was posted on the Victoria Police website this morning, but Constable Young said that to her knowledge there had been no further leads and that no one has come forward at this stage.

So have there been any similar crimes taking place in the area – kidnappings of other small pets, such as rabbits or mice? Is there a serial pet-napper at large?

"Not that I'm aware of," Constable Young responded. "I'd assume it'd be pretty noticeable."

"Obviously they're sad that Bobby's gone," Constable Young said. "But they're hopeful he'll come back safe.

"Our biggest priority is getting Bobby home," she added. "We're also happy to have him dropped off at the Brunswick Police Station."
