By now we have all seen our fair share of elaborate, over-the-top and sometimes just plain dangerous gender reveals.

But one couple's decision to reveal their unborn baby's gender by setting off glitter-laden party popper inside a restaurant made a fellow diner see red. The woman claims her dinner was ruined and is calling for compensation.

The woman, who called herself Spare_Professor_6431, took to Reddit's Am I the A---hole advice column to ask if she was wrong to ask for compensation for her meal.

"I was at a restaurant with my husband [when] I noticed a couple of people, a man, and a pregnant woman, sit down next to us and I could hear them rambling excitedly about the woman's pregnancy," she explained in the post.

"A couple of minutes later an older lady, who I assumed to be the woman's mother, came in and sat down too."

She said the mother-to-be then announced that they had found out the gender of the baby, and placed a party popper on the table.

"The woman twisted it and pink glitter flew EVERYWHERE," she said, adding it didn't rain confetti, but glitter, which "fell into my food."

"So I went over to the woman and asked for compensation for my meal," she wrote.

"She said 'No' and that I was being an a---hole for ruining their special moment."

Commenters were quick to rush to the woman's defence, saying she was right to seek compensation, although some said she should have complained to the restaurant.

"But why didn't you speak to a member of staff rather than the woman herself?" asked one, causing another to give their view. "If she had gone to staff, the restaurant probably would've compensated her, but I think she wanted glitter lady to pay."

"If I was staff I would have replaced her meal and billed the glitterati for it," said another.

But some felt it was unfair for the restaurant to have to foot the bill, and suggested it was time to introduce a special fee.

"So it's better for the unhinged people to unload on poorly paid restaurant staff?" asked one.

"They have corkage fees and cake-cutting fees. Why not a discretionary 'party fee' to cover idiot a---holes who explode glitter across the restaurant that costs an extra amount of effort for the staff to clean and cover?" asked another.

"Glitter lady also should have cleaned up the goddamn glitter so the poor minimum wage busboy doesn't have to," said another.

Many thought the woman was right to confront those who made the mess.

"Those people deserved a confrontation," said one. "Who started this confrontation, really? F--- the glitter lady," said another.
