'I will die on this hill': Why Katie isn't hiding the fact that her au pair comes on every family holiday

Anyone who's been on a holiday with toddlers knows it can be a total nightmare, but one mum has found a 'game changer' that definitely helps. 

Katie Bunton, who goes by kthiller on Instagram, admitted their au pair comes along on every family holiday and explained why it's the hill she will die on. 

The mum of twin boys added that it doesn't make you selfish to do this and shared the three main reasons why they do it on Instagram.

For Katie, it means she can spend quality time with her husband, fill her own cup, and she said they still spend most of their time together as a family. 

But in the caption she explained more about it and revealed that looking at her relationship with her husband made her think about how to make changes. 

"Statistically most divorces happen between year 5-8 of marriage. Which to me, sounds like a bunch of people who are raising kids under age five or six and it's taken a huge toll on their relationship," she wrote. 

"I genuinely never thought that could ever be us but after 2.5 years of being a super mom to twins, I could start to understand why people who love each other very much can grow apart and resent one another…

"SO I will die on this hill. Having help does not make you a selfish or bad parent. Making your marriage and filling your own cup a priority too, if anything, can help your family unit thrive."

Katie stressed that she knows it is a privilege to be able to afford the help of an au pair. 

But for her she also loves being very open about their dynamic, and the help they have, because people can be so judgemental about it.

"I don't really give a s--t what people think. I do give a shit about my family and what's best for us to all thrive and be a unit though. And this has been a game changer for us." 

While some of the response was that the video was super tone deaf due to the cost of living pressure a lot of families are under, a lot of people loved her honesty. 

"However your village looks to help is fine! Embrace it!" replied one follower. 

Another woman commented, "So happy you say this. As a nanny myself it's so rewarding to help the parents have a happy life." 

Katie, who is Canadian, moved to Byron Bay with her husband when their twins were young, so their village and help looks very different to a lot of other people, which is also why she's so transparent about it.
