Victoria’s Secret model slams ‘impossible’ beauty standards after giving birth

When a Victoria’s Secret model gets criticised for the way her body looks you know something’s seriously wrong with society’s beauty standards.

Long-time model Candice Swanepoel has hit back at trolls throwing shade at her post-baby body after she gave birth to son Ariel just three weeks ago.

In a recent post to her Instagram story, the 29-year-old South African beauty shared photos taken by paparazzi of her enjoying a day at the beach and slammed those who were critical of her postpartum figure.

“This is me 12 days after having my son. If you have something to say about it...check yourself,” the model wrote in a caption on one of the photos. (Which, as you can see below, she looks absolutely stunning in).

“Society can be so cruel to one another. Beauty standards are sometimes impossible for women these days.”

The model went on to highlight that no mum should feel ashamed of showing off their post-baby bodies.

“I’m not ashamed to show my postpartum tummy. I’m proud actually… I carried my son for nine months in there.

“I don't have to hide my stomach just because people have unrealistic standards of women.

“We create life. What can you do? Ladies we are all in this together so be kind to each other xo,” Swanepoel wrote.

While social media often perpetuates unrealistic ideas of beauty and womanhood, thankfully, it also provides a platform for women across the world to share their real stories, build global support networks and break down false beauty standards.
