UK woman uses inheritance on IVF to conceive quadruplets at 51

A 51-year-old woman in the UK made history when she became the oldest mother of quadruplets last year.

Now, Tracey Britten has introduced her four babies to the world in the first television interview with This Morning.

Tracey, who is also a grandmother, decided to use money from the inheritance her mum left her to try and conceive another child through IVF, with hopes of having twins.

She explained her mother always longed for one of her daughters to have twins, but she never expected the outcome.

"My niece, my brother's daughter has twins but she [my mum] wanted one of her girls to have twins. So what better way to spend the money she left?" Tracey explained.

Tracey went to Cyprus for treatment, as she had the best chance of falling pregnant there because the clinic was able to use four embryos.

Falling pregnant again at 50, Tracey just hoped for one baby, but got the shock of her life when it turned out to be quadruplets.

At first the pregnancy was kept a tightly-guarded secret, and there were happy tears when Tracey revealed the news to her daughter and daughter-in-law.

"I took my daughter and daughter-in-law for something to eat one afternoon, I was about six weeks pregnant by then and I told them and we all got teary eyed and hugged," she explained.

"My daughter suggested I go for an early scan as I looked bigger. She [the doctor] saw two at first then she paused and said, 'Hold on a minute, have you had help in this pregnancy?'

"My son and my husband were asking if they’re identical, and then she said, 'Hold on a minute, there’s three. Right, everybody needs to calm down!'" she recalled.

Tracey added: "And then she told us there were four."

Due to the fact it was such a high risk pregnancy, doctors advised Tracey to go ahead with just two babies but she declined and continued to carry all four.

The babies arrived via caesarean at 31 weeks but the babies spent a lot of time in hospital.

All four returned home for the first time just before Christmas.

Tracey received plenty of backlash and hate online when the news came out that she was pregnant.

"My daughter called me and said, 'Mum, don’t read the online comments,' but the first thing you do is read them," she explained.

"I read a few of them then I stopped. They [trolls] were calling me a foreigner, saying I shouldn’t be allowed to have kids here, and the NHS shouldn’t be paying for it."
