Celebrity baby name facing a huge drop in popularity

He may be one of the richest people in the world, but Elon Musk isn't providing much inspiration for new parents.

Trend research by the US Social Security Administration, has revealed the billionaire's first name 'Elon' is dramatically dropping in popularity.

The name is among a number of recognisable celebrity names that expecting parents are staying well clear of in recent years.

Data released by the US Government agency in May, identified the names that decreased in popularity from 2021 to 2022 based on naming records across the nation.

And it's not good news for anyone called Elon, as the name has officially entered into the top 25 fastest-falling names for boys in the US.

Between 2021 and 2022, the name fell 140 places from its already low ranking of 956th most popular baby name for boys to number 1096.

Elon has a Hebrew origin, meaning 'oak tree' also associated with a number of positive traits including strength, wisdom, and endurance.

It is also a biblical name, appearing in the Old Testament.

And it seems the association to billionaire Elon Musk, and his frequent appearance in the headlines over the last few years, is contributing to the name's decline.

Nameberry Editor-in-Chief Sophie Kihm told HuffPost that pop culture can have a major impact on name trends - even in a negative way.

"Pop culture namesakes tend to spike for two reasons: Either a celebrity has recently become a household name, or something has happened related to the celebrity that reintroduced or reminded wider audiences of their name."

This seems to also be the case for a number of other celebrity names that aren't appealing to parents.

Boy names that were identified as dropping in popularity included Keanu, Khalid and Drake.

Jada, Ellen and Paris were found to be less appealing girl's names.

The number one fastest-falling name was Jacoby for boys, moving from 888th place in 2021 to 1214th in 2022.

And Tatiana for girls, falling from 993rd place, over 280 places down to 1280th.
