'Spotify Wrapped is here, and it's proof my toddler has taken over my account'

The day so many people anxiously wait for is finally here: Spotify Wrapped.

Taylor Swift has done it again and for the second time in a row has taken the top spot as Australia's most-streamed artist for 2024. She also took out the title for Most Streamed artist internationally too, which comes as no surprise to anyone, really.

As I scrolled through Instagram this morning, I saw plenty of friends sharing their top lists, with Swift up there in the Top 5 for many of them.

But looking at mine – if you could even call it that – is a very different story.

You see, I'm a mum to an 18-month-old and my Spotify account has become hers, and I know I'm not alone in this.

My top song? Hot Potato - The Wiggles Sound System Remix by The Wiggles and Lenny Pearce.

Next, Do the Propeller! by The Wiggles, Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car - The Wiggles, then a slight bit of my taste and hopeful influence slots in with Saving Up by Dom Dolla. Rounding out the Top 5, unsurprisingly, is another original Wiggles banger, The Monkey Dance.

Look, I'll admit there's a slight bit of me in there.

The introduction of The Wiggles Sound System Remix was to ease her into the genre of dance music and she's become a bit of a fan, happily dancing away to it – and, of course, Dom Dolla, who managed to sneak in as well.

But for a lot of parents, this time of year is more of a reflection on how we've used music to keep our kids happy.

The Wiggles were announced as Australia's most-streamed local artists in 2024, which is no surprise at all to anyone with a child under age two.

Forget listening to the radio when you're in the car, or putting on a podcast or even your own playlist if you've got a toddler who's kicking off. You've got to call in the big guns: The Wiggles.

There's only one way to get home from an activity with a toddler on the verge of falling asleep in the car seat and absolutely ruining any chance of them having a decent nap at home: The Wiggles.

Trying to cook dinner with a toddler screaming at you to be picked up, and need a distraction but don't want to put the TV on? The Wiggles, on a speaker.

As the day has gone on, more mum friends have been sharing their Wrapped lists and The Wiggles are up there in everyone's top artists.

While The Wiggles are dominating my trends, for other parents it's 'white noise' or music from the Trolls soundtrack.

And even celebrities can't escape it.

Mum-of-four Blake Lively spoke with The Hollywood Reporter for its 2024 Women in Entertainment Power 100 list and shared that her most-played song of 2024 is actually one for her kids.

"Baby Shark, Dance Remix. I have a one-year-old. It's heaven – and also musical hell," she joked.

So while my friends with older kids, or who don't have kids, have Top Artists of cool bands or the ultimate Gen Z playlist vibes, I can safely say mine has been wholly and solely taken over by my toddler.
