'No idea what she would look like': Sophie Shaw reflects on the 'generous' donor who helped her have her third baby

Sophie Shaw, known previously as Sophie Cachia, is settling right back into life with a newborn, although the third time around things are different. 

She's in a relationship with AFLW player Maddy Prespakis, navigating two older kids at school and couldn't be more in love with her life. 

Sharing a little life update on Instagram with a carousel of snaps, the new mum-of-three revealed what's changed this time around and how grateful she is for the donor that helped her have another baby, her daughter Esme.

"I regularly think about my generous donor and how wild it is she shares so many of my features such as hair, eye colour & dimples and looks so much like her big brother as a baby," she wrote. 

"I spent 9 months having NO idea what she would look like." 

Shaw said feeding this time has been different after she underwent a breast reduction surgery.

"She loves her boobs & her bottle - have had to work hard to bring my milk in (thinking reduction has affected this slightly BUT am so blessed they're still working and she's latching!! + feeding has been made more an enjoyable experience for me with the smaller boob size," Shaw wrote. 

"I yearned for the day I could casually whip my boob out & feed her where I am 🩷) and after spending a couple of extra nights in special care being monitored, she's back thriving with weight & feeds."

Shaw admitted it's been hard to have a newborn who "officially" woke up in time with the school year starting and everyone is "tired". 

But despite being older this time around, the recovery has been so much better after Esme's birth. 

"My body has recovered a million times better than my first 2 bubs which has mentally & physically made these past 10 days a completely different experience, and a nice surprise considering my age difference," she wrote. 

And then there's big brother Bob and sister Florence, who are just obsessed with her, as well as her partner who is also settling into motherhood. 

"Mads is a complete natural like we all knew she would be & I'm so grateful to have someone like her on my team, and I stare at this baby girl in awe at 4am in the morning so fucking blessed she joined me here," she finished. 

When Shaw announced she was pregnant with her third bub, speculation went into overdrive about who the baby's father was.

She has since said she considered herself a single mum after conceiving the baby with an anonymous donor and explained that there is no father in this situation. 

Shaw was previously married to former AFL player Jaryd Cachia, from 2015 to 2019, who she shares her older two children with. 

Since then she's dated several women and is now in a relationship with Mads, who she went public with around the same time that she announced her pregnancy in 2024.
