'My nosy neighbours think I'm a terrible parent'

Earlier this year my children and I moved into a new home, a ground-floor unit out in the 'burbs close to family and friends. 

It's the perfect place in every way. It's modern, spacious, secure and comes with plenty of storage, a double-garage and a communal pool.

In the warmer months we practically live in the pool. We normally have it all to ourselves and have even befriended a family of blue-tongue lizards we've named Jekyl, Freckle and Beckle.

While most fellow residents we've encountered have been lovely, it was made very clear to me after the first few encounters that there are two, clear groups in the complex:

1. Renters;

2. Owners.

You can guess which group considers themselves higher in importance.

Then there's the unique combination of individuals themselves. As far as I can tell, the complex is filled with the elderly and single parents.

The single parents tend to keep to ourselves. Having recently endured the devastation of a relationship breakup involving children, we're feeling a little raw and vulnerable and need time to heal.

Then there are the older residents, many of whom seem to spend majority of their days watching the single parents, judging the choices we make.
