NICU doctor shares 'mind-blowing' footage from inside a woman's womb

A doctor has released incredible footage from inside a mother's womb using an internal camera – leaving TikTok followers stunned.

The videos, shared by Dr Michael Narvey a neonatalogist from Canada, show images from inside a uterus of a set of twins and another of a 22-week-old fetus.

"I know there are many women who follow me with babies growing inside them, and I think they are intrigued as to what they look like before birth," he told 9Honey Parenting.

The doctor has gathered a massive following online posting information and clips about pregnancy and beyond, including 3D images of multiples, unique anatomy scans and rare facts about babies.

In one now-viral video, which has been viewed over nine million times, Dr Narvey shares footage of twins in utero captured by a fetoscope, specifically looking at their feet.

"Next time you feel a kick while pregnant you can think of this footage!," he captioned the video.

In the clip, you can clearly see two developing feet kicking around the womb, with the force of the kicks looking pretty intense.

"As you look at the force of some of these kicks, it's no doubt that you can feel them from the outside," he commented.

Dr Narvey also explained to pregnant women just why they can sometimes feel those baby kicks and even see the feet pushing through.

When asked about how the vision was captured he said, "A special instrument called a fetoscope. It is inserted into the amniotic cavity through a small incision on the abdomen."

Fetoscopy allows doctors to see an unborn baby from inside the uterus and is used to evaluate and treat congenital disorders. The technology has been around since the early 1990s.

His followers were blown away by the incredible vision.

"So crazy to be able to see this. Technology and modern science is mind-blowing," said one.

"As a twin mum this is awesome to see," commented another.

In another video, the camera clearly captures the lips and mouth of a 22-week-old where the doctor said the fetus ingest amniotic fluid regularly for developmental purposes.

Dr Narvey also told 9Honey Parenting that he isn't surprised by the popularity of his videos.

"I think people tend to be drawn to see babies at various gestational ages," he said.

Following the reaction to the initial videos, Dr Narvey also released a photo captured from a different womb where the baby was in the signature 'fetal tuck position'.

"With the head flexed forward and back curved, the arms brought to the midline and the hips and knees flexed," he explained while showcasing the fetus which was around 24-26 weeks gestation.

He explained why this was a baby's go-to position while growing inside of the uterus.

"It is not an accident that nature has chosen this position for your baby to be in in the womb," he said in the video. "Research involving preterm babies after birth has shown that babies are most stable from a cardiorespiratory standpoint when they are placed in this fetal tuck position."

He also told his followers that in the NICU, nurses tend to put premature babies into positions like this so that they feel comfortable and for health reasons.

"Nature has determined that this is the best position for re-stability," he concluded the video. Followers are calling the photo 'beautiful' and 'amazing'.

Since starting his TikTok over two years ago, the Canadian doctor has gathered close to 20 million views on his account.

Dr Narvey said that his favourite part of the pregnancy journey is when couples reach the 26 to 27 week gestational stage.

"This is the point at which many families who have been very anxious about delivery of a peri viable baby (22-25 weeks) begin to have hope that things will actually turn out quite well," he said.
