US mum’s ‘passive aggressive’ lunch bags go viral

Any parent will agree raising kids can be really hard work sometimes.

From being underappreciated to asking them to do the same thing over and over again with no response, there’s a lot that can pile up and become quite frustrating.

But Whitney Cicero, a mum from California, has found a hilariously creative way to get passive aggressive with her teenagers.

She writes handwritten notes on her kids’ lunch bags every day, but they’re not what you’d expect as a message from Mum at school.

Whitney, who runs the blog The New Stepford, shares the lunch bags on Instagram and she’s quickly developed a cult following from it.

She told Today she started doing the "passive aggressive lunch bags" for her 14-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son so she could share her most raw thoughts on the daily business of parenting.

Messages on the bags include “Just pretend it’s Chipotle,” “Fortnite is not a career choice,” “Clean up your room,” “Get off your phone,” and “I can’t wait for you to drive either.”

“It's imperative to have humour with your kids,” she told Today.

“We joke about everything — sex, drugs, politics, their bodies — I don't want them to think anything is taboo.”

Whitney explained she was inspired to share pictures of the bags online after her daughter’s classmates started asking to see them daily.
