A UK mum has left the internet in hysterics with her Facebook marketplace blunder, having accidentally put up an advertisement to sell her son.

The 20-year-old mum, Lucy Battle, was actually intending to sell her couch, posting a photo of it alongside the caption "Need gone today".

Unbeknownst to her, the first image of the post ended up being a photo of her seven-month-old son, Oscar.

"I just somehow managed to upload the wrong photo when I was choosing them from my camera roll and unfortunately it was of Oscar!," she told LeedsLive.

She only realised her mistake once people started commenting on the post, saying the blunder made their day.

"It worked out though because one of the messages was someone actually enquiring about the sofa! But most of them were people making jokes about me giving away my son," said the mum.

"I didn't expect it to go so far!"

"Can I swap for a teenager?" joked one person. "How's he at washing up?" asked another.

"What's he like with other babies?" inquired another.

"This made my day," remarked a third.

"Thanks all for being nice though and understanding this was a genuine mistake, I don't want to give away my child," she clarified.
