An Aussie mum has shared a confession about Halloween, saying she steers away from traditional treats because her kids “get enough sugar."

Beginning a conversation on website Stay At Home Mum, the mother writes, "I'm the Grinch when it comes to Halloween. My kids have never been nor will they go trick or treating.

"I put a sign out saying ‘don't bother knocking here or you'll get fruit on my door’ haha. It's an over-commercialised American tradition. Not for me sorry."

Before long, other mums chimed in with confessions of their own about avoiding Halloween.

The author of the initial post then returns, after being asked to explain her comment about fruit.

"If they knock here I will give them fruit. I don't really care where the tradition started, I won't be sucked into plying kids with sugar or having my kids knock on randoms’ doors and ask for treats,” she writes.

"My kids gets enough sugar and junk at home as it is."

Soon enough, she is accused of being "not a fun mum".

However her feelings reflect that of many parents, who choose not to participate in the spookiest time of the year.

The general rule seems to be that only homes with Halloween decorations should be approached, with those choosing not to participate left alone.

"The kids dress up, I hide lollies around the house for them to find and we watch 'scary' movies," one mum writes of her alternative choice for celebrating Halloween.

"Kids dress up and eat chocolates, that way I don't have to deal with door knockers or take them out lol," says another.
