Devastating end to search for missing two-year-old in Texas

A Texas community has been left devastated after a missing toddler was found dead in his neighbour's car.

Over 200 people searched all over town for two-year-old Sarbesh Gurung, who went missing after his mum put him down for a nap on Tuesday afternoon.

"We are all heartbroken," Denton Police Chief Frank Dixon said at a news conference on Wednesday, adding the mother had a panic attack when informed of the find.

"The family is just devastated," the police chief added.

The grim discovery was made owner of the vehicle as he headed to work at 6am on Wednesday morning, according to CBS News.

It's not known how the toddler got into the car and if it had been left unlocked but police say there were no signs of trauma on the little boy and there is currently no homicide investigation taking place.

"There's no persons of interest right now because we have nothing leading us to believe this was an intentional act of homicide," Dixon said in the news conference.

However, the major crimes unit is investigating the incident.

It's believed the toddler may have overheated in the car - with temperatures in Denton hitting 34C, which would have reached 50C inside the vehicle.

The police chief called the boy's death "probably a tragic accident".

"It was just a number of factors that culminated in the ultimate tragedy," he told ABC News.
