UK woman gives birth seven years after menopause

A woman in the UK who was told she was unable to have children has become a mother at 47.

Tess Morten visited her GP because she'd felt bloated, sick and tired for months.

Having gone through menopause six years earlier and enduring three failed IVF cycles, she was worried she had ovarian cancer.

Doctors warned her she had "all the signs" of the deadly disease.

At no stage was pregnancy considered to be a possibility.

"The doctor said, 'I'm going to send you for an emergency scan and expect bad news,'" she said during an interview on This Morning on ITV.

At the time husband Neil, 52, was at home caring for their three foster children.

"The nurse was holding my hand," the first-time-mum said. 

The sonographer told her both her ovaries looked fine, before turning the screen around. She was three-and-a-half months pregnant.

"I said, 'Is that mine,'" Tess said. 

When she returned home, Neil was waiting for her at the door and asked her if she was okay.

"It's not cancer," she told him. "I've got a baby in my tummy."

After years and countless thousands spent on fertility treatment, heartbreak after heartbreak, the couple feels the pregnancy was meant to be.

"We'd done something right," she said.

Daughter Molly was born in January this year.

Neil picked the name after finding out it meant “miracle”.

The couple have been married since 2003.
