Macaulay Culkin embraces unexpected celebrity trend as son's name is revealed three years after his birth

Almost three years after former child star Macaulay Culkin became a dad for the second time, his actress fiancée has finally revealed the child's name.

Culkin, 44, and fellow child star Brenda Song, 36, welcomed their second child in March 2022, but kept mum on his name – until now.

Song, who found fame on the Nickelodeon and Disney channels, revealed her youngest child's name was Carson during an interview with Bustle published online overnight.

Carson joins older brother Dakota, who was born in 2021.

The family made a rare public appearance in December 2023 when Culkin was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

However, they did not pose for photos as a family of four. Instead, the two boys were photographed separately with their parents.

During the Bustle interview, Song seemingly shed light on why she and Culkin, who famously battled demons after his turn as a child star, have kept their children out of the spotlight.

She said Dakota was "so scared of all the cameras" at the Hollywood Walk of Fame event.

"That's one of the reasons why we sort of keep them away," she said.

"They did not understand what was happening."

She said an incident at Dakota's soccer practice also convinced Song that they'd done the right thing.

"My son was like, 'Why is that man taking pictures of you, mama?' You could take pictures of me all day. I don't care. But when it's your kids, it's different. They didn't ask for this life."

Song and Culkin are not the first stars to refrain from publicly naming their children.

Hugh Grant only revealed the name of two of his daughters, aged eight and five, during an October 2024 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Grant is a father of five children, including three with wife Anna Eberstein. They also share their eldest child, son John.

"I was with my wife on the day we named her," he began.

"We thought it might be nice for her when she was older if she could say in bars that her middle name is 'Danger'. So, her name is Lulu Danger Grant.

"And her sister, Blue Grant [is] named Blue because again I panicked about names with my wife so we asked her elder brother when she was on the way... 'What should we call her?', and he said, 'Kevin,' because that was his favourite Minion.

"And we did think about calling her Kevin but then we said, 'You better think of something else.' So he said 'Blue' because that was his favourite colour."

In early 2023, it was revealed Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively had welcomed their fourth child when Lively posted a photo without her baby bump.

They came short of announcing the birth and Reynolds went as far to note "I ain't telling."

"This ain't a birth announcement. We didn't make a birth announcement," he said at the time.

It wasn't until July 2024 that Reynolds revealed the child's name was Olin, when he thanked his wife and kids at the premiere of his film Deadpool & Wolverine.

Kylie Jenner is another celebrity who waited to reveal her child's name.

She originally announced her son with Travis Scott was named Wolf, soon after his birth in February 2022, before revealing on Instagram weeks later that she was changing his name.

She then waited until January 2023 to reveal his new name, Aire.

Her sister Khloé Kardashian also waited a year to reveal her son's first name.

She ended up going to court to legally change his name from 'Baby Kardashian' – as it appeared on his birth certificate – to Tatum Thompson, according to the Los Angeles Times.
