Mum-to-be left in tears over husband's baby name decision

It's not uncommon for parents-to-be to disagree about potential monikers for their unborn baby - but most couples' baby name disputes don't end in tears.

However that is exactly what happened for one pregnant woman when her husband refused to use her 'dream' baby name for their unborn daughter. The upset mum-to-be shared details of the 'fight' with her partner on Mumsnet.

"This weekend, (my husband) said that seeing the scan made him realise this baby is a real person...and a real person can't possibly have the name Mabli," said the expectant mother.

The husband instead started suggesting "really boring names", to the point that it made the woman cry. "I never knew he was so conventional," she said.

"We spent the rest of the weekend hurling names at each other, his getting increasingly safer and mine wilder.

"What would you consider middle ground?" she asked Mumsnet. "I'm still very fed up about Mabli but I suppose it can be a pet's name."

Mumsnet commenters offered the woman support, with some suggesting the couple have a break from discussing baby names for a little while.

"I think you need to take a week or so off make chat to cool off, then come back together, each with a list of at least ten names, and go from there," suggested one helpful commenter.

"I'd also suggest showing your (husband) the (official statistics)- mine was similar to many first-time parents, in that he imagined his taste was totally unique, but then when shown that his preferred names were often top 50, he went off them."
