Husband refuses to pay his child's grandmother for babysitting

A new dad is being slammed for refusing to pay his mother-in-law anything to babysit his three-month-old baby five days a week.

His wife has taken to Reddit seeking advice on how to convince him it's only fair to give her mum a wage to care for their baby when they go back to work.

"My mum will be the babysitter while we are working. That will be 40 hours a week almost every week. She will babysit in her home which is just across the street," she wrote.

She says her 68-year-old mum is fit and healthy but has asked for £310 ($400) a month to care for their baby son, which has sparked a fiery debate between the couple.

"Basically my partner and I have completely opposing views on whether she should get paid or not."

The new mum outlines the main reason she thinks her mum should get paid:

"She likes going places and being outside [and] while babysitting won't prevent her entirely from doing these things it will limit her to a certain extent especially when the baby is so young."

She also adds that she thinks the amount is "quite low" and was "expecting her to ask more".

But her husband's point of view couldn't be more opposite.

"My partner believes she should not get paid and seems almost insulted at the idea [because] he thinks she should be happy to do it because this will allow her to spend time with her grandson," she continued.

"He also thinks because she lives just across the street that it is convenient."

The new mum admits it's been the cause of "a few fights" between the pair and she isn't sure how to move forward when they're both so stuck on their reasoning.

The internet has torn shreds off her husband accusing him of being entitled" and likening him to "Ebenezer Scrooge".

One follower broke it down, writing: "So. $2.50 an hour? Your partner doesn't want to pay $2.50 an hour for childcare? Wow."

While another suggested that $100 a week is good value when childcare easily costs more than $100 a day.

"OPs husband has no idea how good he's got it."
