George Clooney reveals 'terrible mistake' made with twins, Ella and Alexander

Like many parents, George and Amal Clooney wanted to raise their children to be bilingual.

But the famous couple is now regretting their choice of teaching twins Ella and Alexander, five, Italian - a language neither parent speak.

The pair have opened up in a rare interview, about the fear their little charges will be able to secretly conspire against them as they get older.

As the actor told CBS Mornings yesterday, they'd made a "terrible mistake'.

"We taught them Italian," he told host Gayle King. "But we don't speak Italian. So we've armed them with a language they can harm us with. And we both don't really know what they're saying."

Clooney revealed the talented youngsters also speak French.

But while he and Amal are in awe of their achievements, it seems the twins aren't so impressed by their famous parents. Not even Clooney having played Batman impressed Alexander, despite it being his favourite superhero.

"I go, 'you know, I was Batman,' and he goes, 'Yeah, but not anymore'," George shared, "if only he knew how true that was."

Languages aren't the only thing Clooney wants his children to learn. Speaking with the WTF with Marc Marron podcast last year, the actor revealed he wants the twins to be self-sufficient and resilient, despite the lifestyle he and Amal can provide.

"I'm really aware of a couple of things, which is I'm aware of the danger of celebrity with kids and I'm aware of the danger of having means with kids," he shared, explaining how his modest upbringing had instilled important survival skills he wants them to learn.

"I learned to be scrappy because of that. You can put me in any situation, I can survive," he said. "I can survive anything. I had to make sure that that's something that our kids get. That's important to me."
