The most popular baby names for 2018 revealed

As the internet dishes out end of year lists on best movies, best tweets, best albums and the like, we all know the end of year list that really matters: the most popular baby names list.

Brisbane's Greenslope's Private Hospital released their list of most popular baby names of the year.

Charlotte, once again, has taken out the top spot for girls, proving how much of an impact the modern royal family has.

For boys, Oliver was number one, with the female version 'Olivia' coming in at number three for girls.

"The names Olivia and Oliver also continue to both be popular choices among Australian parents," Maternity services manager Raechel Frost said.

Following on from Prince Harry's visit to our country at the end of this year, his formal name Henry has nagged the number three spot and his nickname, Harry, is number eight. His brother's name, William, is the number two boy name.

America's Baby Center has also made their own list of name trend predictions for 2019.

Names based off shoe brands, like Chuck, Taylor, Stan, Smith and Van are expected to rise. As are gender-swapped names, such as Max and Ryan for girls and Ashley and Kelsey for boys.

The Baby Center also predicted that the name Louis will swiftly rise the ranks, following on from the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's third child. Whatever Harry and Meghan dub their child is also expected to shoot up in popularity.
