The anime-inspired baby names growing in popularity for 2024
There's a surprising trend when it comes to baby names that even the experts didn't see coming.
Sophie Kihm, editor-in-chief at Nameberry said the team was shocked to see a boom in anime inspired names.
Kihm says the boom could be due to parents' increase in "their own niche interests".
We've compiled a list of 28 anime-inspired baby names.
And though they've been grouped into traditional girl and boy names, due to their character connotations, many of the names on this list are considered gender neutral.

Baby girl names
Aimi
Aimi means 'beautiful love' and is a character in the 2012 movie, Wolf Children.
Akira
Akira is a popular anime inspired name, coming from a film of the same name.
It means bright and intelligent.
Kaira
Kaira is inspired by the series of anime games, Kingdom of Hearts.
The name means beloved or dear.
Lina
Lina means dignified, the name is inspired by a character in the adventure anime, Slayers.
Luna
Although similar to the last name, Luna has a whole different meaning.
Inspired by the popular show, Sailor Moon, Luna means moons.
Mayu
The meaning behind Mayu is truth and gentleness.
The name is inspired by the manga series, Elfen Leid.
Mei
Mei means beautiful.
The name comes from the classic anime film, My Friend Totoro.
Mikasa
Mikasa is a character in the hit anime series, Attack On Titan.
The name references Mount Mikasa, a mountain in Japan with three peaks.
