Fitness star Emily Skye gets real about her 'wrinkly tummy skin'

Fitness star and mum Emily Skye has shown her 2.5 million followers her ‘wrinkly tummy skin’, encouraging them to feel confident in their own skin.

Skye, 34, shared two photos of herself wearing denim shorts and a crop top—the first depicting her body as a whole, and the second taking a closer look at her stomach.

“I love myself whether you can see the wrinkly skin or not,” the Aussie influencer, who welcomed her first child in late 2017, explains in her caption.

“I feel confident either way. This is why I wear tops to show my belly! I’m proud of my body and what it’s capable of.”

The appearance of Skye’s stomach is a result of her pregnancy with daughter Mia, now 15 months old. It is not uncommon for women to have ‘wrinkly’ or ‘loose’ skin after giving birth, due to their stomach stretching to accommodate the growing baby.

“We all have these parts of us that some may deem as ‘flaws’,” Skye continues.

“I like to call them ‘being human’ and ‘being unique.’”

Several influencers have posted side-by-side ‘Instagram vs Reality’ photos in a bid to show their followers that not everything they see on social media is ‘real’ and is often highly posed, edited and planned. However, Skye makes the point that both of her photos are ‘real life.’

“Just because you take a ‘nice’ photo with good posture or good lighting doesn’t mean it’s not real life,” she wrote.

“It’s just a part of yourself or your life that you’ve chosen to show.”

Plenty of Skye’s followers praised her for normalising the physical change women go through during and after pregnancy – however, some seemed to miss the point entirely, and commented on ways to ‘fix’ her tummy.

However, we prefer to focus on the sweetest comment of all, coming from a male follower.

“I have shared your profile to my wife, daughter and nieces,” he writes.

“You are an inspiration. You are real, and it shows.”
