93yo bride's raunchy joke leaves Karl and Lisa blushing on Today

A TODAY segment about an elderly couple’s wedding took a detour from romantic to raunchy, leaving hosts Lisa Wilkinson and Karl Stefanovic in hysterics.

It’s taken two decades for Frank Martin, 88, to get his longtime love Sylvia Martin, 93, to agree to marry him.

This week, 20 years after they met at choir practice, the couple finally tied the knot in a ceremony beside the lake at their retirement village in Canberra.

The bride admitted she wasn’t feeling her age, declaring, “I don’t feel 93. I still get up to mischief".

It soon became clear she wasn’t kidding.

Cameras captured Sylvia after the ceremony telling a family member about her hopes for the honeymoon, and her choice of words probably left a few viewers choking on their breakfast cereal.

“I said to [Frank], ‘If you don’t nail me with that on tonight, I will lay on you,” she said.

Her companion responded with mortification, but Lisa and Karl seemed impressed as the segment cut back to them.

“Sylvia! Go Sylvia! There’s plenty still going on with Frank and Sylvia,” Lisa remarked.

A stunned Karl could barely contain his laughter, asking, “Isn’t she a livewire? Did she really say that?”

“She did, and nobody thought to bleep it out,” Lisa responded.

It seems this level of candour isn't unusual for Sylvia.

In an interview with TODAY’s Sylvia Jeffreys last month, the bride-to-be related the story of how she made the first move with Frank at choir practice all those years ago.

“We’d finish singing and he’d go and hide in the corner. I went out of my way to be friends with him,” she said.

“So then I said, ‘Would you like to come over for dinner?’ and he said yes. When he came in I said, ‘No hanky panky.”

Frank told TODAY their wedding marked “the beginning of a new life”, joking, “I accepted the challenge, or the contract, whichever way you want to look at it.”
